This morning I decided to visit Roker beach again as the projected weather forecast showed 0% cloud between 8 and 9 am, which was the perfect condition I was after to photograph the lighthouse. I was hoping the weather didn’t change drastically like it did last time, as the rest of the week's forecast is predicted to be rain and cloudy. When I arrived, there was a narrow blanket of cloud in the distance, so this wouldn’t affect my photographs or the sun too much.
Last time I photographed the pier from street level, but this time I decided to take my camera down to the beach to see if I could compose the pier any differently than before. I started off using my 24-105mm lens, crouching down to the ground level to capture the texture of the waves as the tide came in. I waited patiently for the sun to rise above the clouds, along with a few other families who had joined to watch the sunrise on this beautiful morning. I photographed the beach for quite a while as I experimented with compositions and lens, as I switched to my 70-300mm to get a closer shot of the lighthouse.
On my way back to the car, I noticed that I could see the lighthouse poking through the houses below, which created an interesting composition and frame as the plants in the foreground are blurred to draw attention to the lighthouse. From up here, I could also see the marina, which I wanted to photograph again to get better photographs that are warmer and eye-catching. The sun was shining brightly onto the landscape, turning the boats and buildings into silhouettes, as the sky shone with golden tones. I am so glad I came here this morning as I couldn’t have hoped to capture better photographs than this. Even though I probably won’t visit to take photographs here soon, I will definitely come here to enjoy the morning sunrise through my eyes, rather than the viewfinder on my camera.
